Chaste Tree or Vitex
Chaste Tree is also known as vitex agnus-castus, chasteberry, Abraham’s balm, lilac chastree and monl’s pepper. I love all of these different names.
Chaste tree is the best thing for hormonal imbalance. As we all know if anything is imbalance, it’s very easy for health problems to manifest. So, we need to strive for balance and chaste tree can help us do just that.
Progesterone is a steroid hormone that is released by the corpus luteum that stimulates the uterus to prepare for a potential pregnancy (Copstead & Banasik, 2012). Chaste tree improves hormone levels and facilitates the recurrence of menstruation in women with amenorrhea (Pizzorno & Murray 2012).
In order to reap the benefits of this slow-acting herb it is important to first get the herb into your system on a regular basis. It supports the body’s production of hormones rather than supplying the hormones itself. It is especially useful for women who are coming off of hormonal birth control. Studies show that the use of chaste tree can significantly improve hormone levels in three to six months.
Chaste tree can be taken in supplement form.
